Based on one study Cylaris is being heralded as a major breakthrough among weight loss products. The study in reference was conducted on a formulation and not on the main constituent of Cylaris. As it is not clear whether the composition of Cylaris is similar to the formulation used in the study, its results remain questionable.

The market is full of products and services that promise weight reduction in the shortest possible time. Cylaris is one of these “magic” products. Marketers of the product claim that it is the strongest weight loss formula in the world.

Besides the advertised information, what is there in the product really that makes it worthy of its claims? Let us first find out the components of the product.

Ingredients & Clinical Studies

The main ingredient of the product is Cissus Quadrangularis. The other constituents of the formula are not clear.

Cissus Quadrangularis is also known as Veld Grape. The plant is native to India. In the traditional medicinal system of India, Ayurveda, this plant has been used for centuries.

Scientific research has suggested the usefulness of this extract in bone healing and in the repair of bone fractures. Till a few years ago, there were no studies to support the claim that the extract of this plant is an effective weight loss agent. Recently few studies have been conducted at the University of Yaounde in Cameroon to find out the effectiveness of Cissus quadrangularis in weight loss.

These studies more or less confirm the claims made by the company marketing Cylaris. Studies suggest that Cissus quadrangularis may be effective in weight loss and lowering blood sugar level.

Cissus quadrangularis
Green tea
Chromium
Soy extract
Selenium
Caffeine
Folic acid
Vitamin B

What is difficult to discern is whether Cissus Quadrangularis is responsible for these positive results or if its effectiveness is because of its combination with other ingredients.

If Cylaris contains the same composition as used in the formulation in the study, the product may provide some relief to the overweight. If the constituents of Cylaris are not the same, then the results would be not effective.

Another interesting fact is that the lead author of the study has a patent on Cissus Quadrangularis as a fat loss agent. While this does not make the study illegal or illegitimate it certainly suggests a conflict of interest for the study.

Conclusion

The amount of Cissus Quadrangularis used in the cylaris formulation is perhaps too small to be really effective as suggested in the study. As the exact proportion of the ingredient Cissus Quadrangularis in the Cylaris formulation is not clearly indicated, it is difficult to say how effective this formulation will be.

It is not possible to make claims of being the best weight loss product in the world on the basis of a single study. More studies are needed to confirm these positive results.
